Free Credit Reports For All

According to a report from the Federal Trade Commission, a recent amendment to the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act requires each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies to provide you with a free copy of your credit report, at your request. The three nationwide consumer reporting companies - Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union - will be required to begin compliance with this amendment according to a regional roll-out schedule. Consumers in the Southern states — Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas — will first be able to order their free credit reports beginning June 1, 2005. The law allows you to order one free copy from each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies every 12 months.
